Who I am, in three sentences
I'm Jenna Whitlock, a thirty-eight-year-old personal-finance blogger based in regional Victoria. I run At Warm as a side project when the kids are at school, and it's grown into something a lot of readers seem to find useful. I'm not a qualified financial adviser or a gambling counsellor — just someone who writes about money in a warm, plain-English way for people who want the friendly version.
Why this blog exists
I started At Warm in 2022 after a long stretch of being frustrated with money content online. The good stuff was written for people who already understood the terminology. The accessible stuff was often thinly disguised sales for a product. I wanted a middle ground — writing that assumed you were intelligent and curious but didn't assume you had a finance background, and that wasn't secretly trying to sell you anything.
The pokies content came later. Readers started asking me about it because their banks were declining card payments and they didn't know what PayID even was. I did the reading, wrote what I learned in the same warm plain-English style, and it turns out a lot of Australians were looking for exactly that. So payid pokies guidance is now part of what At Warm covers, alongside the everyday money-and-household writing.
What I'm not
I'm not a financial adviser. Nothing on At Warm is financial advice. I'm not a gambling counsellor either — that's a specific qualification, and I don't have it. If you need actual advice tailored to your situation, please speak to someone qualified. My aim here is to help you understand what things are and how they work, so you're a better-equipped conversation partner with the people who can advise you.
The rest of the story
I live in regional Victoria with my husband, two school-aged kids, and one very elderly whippet who mostly sleeps in patches of sun. I bake a lot of sourdough (with mixed results). I read a lot of nonfiction. I write At Warm in the mornings before the household gets going, and answer reader emails on Sunday afternoons over a cup of tea. If you'd like to say hello, the contact page is always open.
